about

Wendy Woods: The Backstory

My mission is to help you stay active for a lifetime based on your unique needs. My journey in movement began early—at just 13 years old, I took on my first job as a ballroom dance instructor. By 19, I was teaching yoga in Canada, which sparked my passion for understanding how we can stay active, healthy, and moving well throughout our lives.

Seeking deeper knowledge, I moved to Boulder, CO, where I studied Somatic Psychology and Movement Therapy. This experience led me to start my personal training and coaching practice, where I’ve been able to combine my passion for learning with my commitment to helping others.

As a personal trainer for almost 20 years, I integrate all my knowledge to guide clients in cultivating balanced activity. I emphasize the importance of appropriate strength practices, as well as the vital role of rest and recovery, ensuring that the body remains connected to the mind. I specialize in helping others correct body imbalances that lead to pain and injury. I teach movements and modifications that are both doable and supportive, ultimately making life easier and more enjoyable.

“When we’re younger, we don’t notice it. When we’re middle-aged, we ignore it. When we’re older, we can’t deny it. The “it” is pain.” – Wendy Woods

Pain is the great communicator, urging us to pay attention and take thoughtful actions to change it. The good news is you can. Knowing the right movements and exercises that feel good and support your body is key. This is the education we all should have received: How to Take Care of Your Body 101.

I teach a full range of movements because everyone has different needs. Some may benefit from the slower, mindful movements of tai chi, qigong, and yoga, while others may require balance, strength, stretching, breathing, or posture exercises. We are all unique, and my approach reflects that.

My favorite activities include tai chi, hiking, biking, dancing, weight training, walking, mindfulness meditation, swimming, improv, and singing in my church choir. I find joy in connecting with nature and spending time with friends and family.

For nearly two decades, I’ve had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients—from those new to strength training eager to learn proper movements and techniques to seasoned athletes seeking practical insights on form, movement patterns, pain relief, and injury prevention. Together, we develop personalized programs that align with their long-term goals, building a solid foundation in functional movement that seamlessly integrates into other activities.

My approach combines traditional weight training, stretching, mind-body awareness, dynamic movement, and bodyweight exercises, along with mobilization and breathing techniques, to create balanced, adaptive programs tailored to each individual’s needs. I’ve consistently demonstrated success in alleviating chronic pain and addressing complex physical conditions, regardless of age, current fitness level, or medical history.

Through postural and movement assessments, I identify patterns, strengths, and weaknesses, using this information to educate and empower my clients to achieve their fitness goals safely and effectively. As a licensed massage therapist and bodyworker, I have over 1,600 hours of formal training and more than a decade of industry experience to support my practice.
